About the Zoo:

Lords Park Zoo, situated within Lords Park in Elgin, Illinois, offers a delightful escape for visitors seeking a connection with nature. While not a traditional zoo with a vast array of animals, its charm lies in the opportunity to observe native wildlife in a natural setting.

The zoo’s permanent residents include majestic bison, graceful elk, and white-tailed deer, viewable year-round within fenced enclosures.

During summer months, the experience expands with the addition of a temporary Farm Zoo, featuring various farm animals brought in from local farms. While not meant for interaction, the Farm Zoo provides a unique chance to learn about these animals.

Beyond the zoo itself, the surrounding Lords Park offers a picturesque setting for exploration. Lush greenery, walking paths, and a scenic pond teeming with ducks and geese create a tranquil environment for picnicking, taking leisurely strolls, or simply relaxing amidst nature.

An absolute gem all around! It’s just a cute tiny Zoo / Barn filled with a few Bison, pigs, cows, deer & flys, it’s totally free w/ Alpacas… oh my! Holy sheep, pigs too. It’s lovely open till three parking at the playground there’s a water park in view fyi. It’s super cute too! Wild flowers and two playground areas on each side of the zoo. Also 2 lots w/ Free parking right off Irving. All the animals look well cared for and healthy. Put on your walking shoes wheel chair accessible. Lots of hills. Also be advised there’s. A open body of water with no safety rail or restrictions. Swimming is not allowed and lots of geese and ducks at the back gate by pond. So folks with small kids should avoid the area if not vigilant is needed. I didn’t see any accessible safety precautions in the area accessible.

This place is 360. It has everything: your plan is to walk around you have a lot of green space to walk. There are benches in front of a fountain of the small lake if you want to take a break. There is also a museum, and a very fun playground for young and old children. But if you visit in the summer you can find the farm and some animals waiting to welcome you. It should be added that throughout the year you will be able to see 1 bison of the 3 there were, last year two died (it is still being discussed whether to acquire others as published on the park's official website). But it is still very satisfying to be able to observe this specimen. On the other hand, this year 2024 will see the reopening of the aquatic area for the heat. 10/10.

I've been going here for years but it's been years since I had been here. Still a classic, outstanding park, zoo, and pool.
